Betty McCart Obituary

Betty May McCart, daughter of Elwood and Ruth Gray, was born May 23, 1932 at her home in Eagle Grove, Iowa and became the oldest of nine children. She was raised a devout Catholic and graduated in 1950 from Eagle Grove High School. During her senior year in high school, she became employed as a secretary at CCA Fertilizing and Rendering Plant in Eagle Grove where she was employed until the birth of their first son.

On May 18, 1953, Betty was united in marriage with George Wayne McCart in Eagle Grove.  The couple made their home west of Eagle Grove where they farmed and raised 6 children.

Betty was an amazing person. She devoted her entire married life to her family as nothing was more important to her or brought her more joy. She made the best (and probably the most) homemade buns and chocolate chip cookies in the state of Iowa. She was always so much fun, had boundless energy, and was such a delight to be with. She was an incredible person to her family and friends.

Betty passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in Fort Dodge, Iowa at the age of 87 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents, Ruth and Elwood, and her brothers, Bob and Bill Gray.

She is survived by 6 children: Dan McCart of Eagle Grove, Diane Girard (husband Al) of Ankeny, Iowa, Kent McCart (wife Ida) of Eagle Grove, Mike McCart (wife Kim) of Eagle Grove, Gary McCart (wife Wendy) of Eagle Grove, and Doris Marner (husband Dan) of Crowley, Texas and her 6 sisters Phyllis Cooper, Teresa Dodd, Rose Sandvig, Paula Eck, Lana Nail, and brother, Ron Gray; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren

A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, October 26 for her family and other relatives at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be directed to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
