Edna Maxine (Schnell) Stoll

Edna Maxine (Schnell) Stoll, the daughter of Alex “Sander” and Lillian (Williams) Schnell, was born on January 19th, 1935. At age 13, she was stricken with Polio and spent almost 8 months in Blank Children’s Hospital.  Edna graduated from Goldfield High School in 1953.

     On February 9, 1958, Edna was united in marriage with Dennis Stoll at Wishard Chapel in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where she worked for an optometrist, Dr. Erlander, sold Tupperware, owned an Antique Store on South Commercial with Pat Stevenson, owned and managed the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, and worked inside sales for ADS for 14 years before retiring.

     Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church. Edna was also a past President of the Eagle Grove Golf Course. She was active in starting the Museum in the old Eagle Grove Library, contributed to the Eagle Grove Centennial Book, and wrote numerous news articles for the Fort Dodge Messenger – one which was about the Explosion in Eagle Grove. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, baking, crocheting, gardening, golfing, fishing and playing bridge.

     Edna passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 84 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Darwin; brother, Roger Schnell and sisters, Betty Shirley, Dorothy Reichter and Margery Trask.

     Edna is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons, Darrel (Cindy) of Cedar Rapids and Darin (Judy) of Ames; daughter, DeEtta Rosa (Jack) of Grimes; nine grandchildren: Brandon, Andrea, Troy, Ashley, Jessica, Alexandra, Addyson, Kade and Tyler and 13 great-grandchildren.

     Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. 

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
