Eldene M. (Ellsworth) Mericle

Eldene Marie (Ellsworth) Mericle, the daughter of Scott M. and Ruth N. (Pletcher) Ellsworth, was born on February 16, 1940, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She attended Eagle Grove Schools and was a proud member of the “Class of 1958”.

     Eldene married Bob Bjornson and they had two children, Jody and Brian.  She later married Donald Mericle  and they had a son, Jeff.

    Most of Eldene’s adult life, she worked for the family owned business – Ellsworth Freight Line in Eagle Grove.  She most enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events, playing cards with the ladies and walking numerous miles around Eagle Grove.  Eldene especially enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and having hot suppers ready for the crew when they came in from the field.  She and Don retired in 1987 and moved into Eagle Grove.  They enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winters.

    Eldene passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt, at the age of 78 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don in May 2018; brothers, Ed, Jim, and Richard; daughter, Jody and step-son, Keith Mericle.

     Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brian Bjornson (Robin) of Pomeroy and Jeff Mericle (Lisa) of Humboldt; step-daughters, Lynda Knight of Aurora, CO and Kathleen Sheesley (Mike) of Browns Valley, CA; step-sons, Steve Mericle (Renae) of Manly and Craig Mericle (Kady) of rural Plymouth; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Adams of MN and Pat Coleman of PA; brother, Ray Ellsworth (Ruth)  of IN; sisters-in-law, Terry Ellsworth of NJ and Marge Ellsworth of IN and many nieces and nephews.

    Private family services were held on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

     Memorials may be left to the discretion to the family.
