Gary Wayne Kessel

Gary Wayne Kessel, the son of Wayne W. and Joyce (Watts) Kessel, was born on November 29, 1945, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  The family moved to Dows in 1955, where Gary graduated from Dows High School in 1963.                                                                    

     On August 15, 1965, Gary was united in marriage to Judy Tempel at the Methodist Church in Kamrar.  The couple made their home in Dows, where he farmed and worked with his father on his Dairy farm since the age of 4.   After his father sold the Dairy farm Gary worked at Jet CO in Humboldt for 23 years.

    Gary was a member of Abundant Life Chapel in Dows where he served as a Deacon.  He was an avid outdoorsman - he loved nature, fishing, hunting and bird watching.  Gary also enjoyed “Muscle” cars and attending tractor pulls, stock car races and rodeos with his son Michael.  He always looked forward to their yearly trips up the North Shore of Minnesota on into Canada.  Gary was an avid fan of all of his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events.  He loved spending time with his wife Judy of 54 years, but most of all he loved Jesus.

    Gary passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019, at his home at the age of 74 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Gary always appreciated all of the many visits from his brother Randy and Pastor Bruce.

    Survivors include his wife Judy of Dows; son Michael Kessel of Northwood; daughters, , Kristi Weimer (David) of Des Moines and Angela Peasley (Gabe) of Huxley; seven grandchildren: Alexa, Preston, Riley and Eli Weimer and Isaiah, Jaden and Kylie Peasley; one great-grandchild, Amory; brother, Randy Kessel (Susan) of Ames; sister, Diane Lomker (Roger) of Rosemount, MN and many other relatives and friends.

    Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Abundant Life Chapel in Dows with Pastor Bruce Klapp officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.   Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
