Janice P. (Bygness) Rowen

Janice Pauline (Bygness) Rowen, the daughter of Harrold and Roberta (Proctor) Bygness, was born on June 3, 1956, in Clarion, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in Goldfield, graduating from Goldfield High School “Class of 1974”.  Jan then attended I.C.C.C. in Eagle Grove.

   On February 21, 1976, Jan was united in marriage with Jon Rowen.  The couple raised their sons and lived on a farm south of Eagle Grove.  They also owned and operated J&J Sports since 1991.

     Jan was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and organizing Vacation Bible School for many years.  She served on the Library Board and was President of the Eagle Grove Lion’s Club.

    Jan was an avid sports fan, she loved traveling across the country, watching and supporting Jon’s softball career since 1978 and cheering on the Chicago Cubs.  She served as the scorekeeper and she served as the team motivator.  Jan was a very good softball player.  Jan also enjoyed reading.  

   Jan passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, after battling the effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis, at the age of 63 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Jon and sister, Joyce Mosher and her husband, Ron. 

    Jan is survived by her husband, Jon Rowen; sons, James Rowen and wife Amanda and Jack Rowen; siblings: Roger Bygness (Jeanne) of Staples MN, Robert Bygness (Suzanne) of Wenatchee, WA, Carolyn Bygness of Coralville and Palma Bygness of Winter Haven, FL and many other family and friends. 

   Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Roth officiating.  Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

   Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
