Kenneth Sholly Obituary

Kenneth Francis Sholly, the son of Harry B. and Stella R. (Weber) Sholly, was born on March 4, 1926, on a farm in rural Cherokee, County, Iowa.  He graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus, Iowa in 1945.  He served in the United States Army, from December of 1945 to August 1947, during W.W.II

     Kenny was united in marriage with Phyllis C. Miller on June 24, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland, Iowa.   Kenny’s worked with various electrical contractors establishing many power lines where none existed across Iowa in the 50s and 60s. The couple and their family made their home in numerous communities throughout Iowa, before settling down in Eagle Grove in 1963 where he worked for I.P.S. and MidAmerican for many years.  He retired November 30, 1988.

      Kenny’s life revolved around his love and devotion to family and faith. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church – serving in the Knights Of Columbus with such honors as Grand Knight and 4th Degree Knight. Kenny was also a sacristan for many years and Sacred Hearts oldest altar boy. He was very active with the Senior Citizens Center and bingo for many years and kept busy volunteering countless hours to his community and church.  Kenny enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, fishing, tinkering, and most of all spending time with his family.

      Kenneth entered into the comfort of God’s loving arms on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, at the age of 92 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Phyllis in 2016; brothers, Vincent, Clarence and Duane; sisters, Kathleen and Edna; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

      Kenny is survived by his sons, Bruce Sholly of Phoenix, AZ and Kevin Sholly and wife Kristi of Clear Lake; daughters, Denise Shadonix and husband Tom of Ottumwa, Maureen Sholly and partner Kim Luedtke of Duluth, MN and Melissa Niederhauser and husband Tom of Eagle Grove; ten grandchildren, Shawna Middleton (John Moore), Matthew (Misty) Middleton, Amanda (Elgn) Arney, Jessica (Cory) Canny, Marc Middleton (Nita), Jeremy Dayton (Joslynn Davis), Bryan (Shannon) Dayton, Jared Sholly, Jason Sholly, and Justin Sholly; two step-grandchildren, Steven (Kylee) Niederhauser and Kelsi (Zach) Bouslog;  nine great-grandchildren (and two on the way), Lily Greenwood, Ethan Arney, Jacob Middleton, Derek Dayton, Kaden Dayton, Kinsley Dayton, Colton Strawn, Ren Canny, and Nash Niederhauser; brothers, Richard of Stanchfield, MN and Cletus of Concord, CA; sisters, Rosemary Knott of Fairfield, CA and Norita Reynolds of Leeds Northhampton, MA, and sisters-in-law,  Zelma Sholly of Hartley, Kaye Carlson of Paullina, Carolyn Manna of West Des Moines, Janice Sage of Paullina, and many nieces and nephews.

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Visitation will be Friday, from 5 to 7 pm with a Knights Of Columbus Rosary and a Vigil service at 4:00 pm at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
