Lillian Kaye (Ernst) Christensen

    Lillian Kaye (Ernst) Christensen, the daughter of Charles and Hannah (Sandvig) Ernst, was born on December 12, 1938, at the family farm west of Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending schools in Humboldt County, Corinth Township, Humboldt Public Schools and Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove – she especially enjoyed band and vocal music activities.

   On October 16, 1955, Lillian was united in marriage with Donald H. Christensen.  They lived their entire married life on a farm east of Eagle Grove and were blessed with three sons and one daughter: Michael, Richard, Gary and Lisa.

    Lillian was an active member of Evangelical Lutheran Church – serving as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, children’s choir director and helped serve numerous funeral luncheons.  She was a Cub Scout den mother and 4-H leader and she also loved to sew, knit and crochet – making many prayer shawls for others.

     Lillian was employed at ICCC, Christensen Motors, First Miss – IMC fertilizer plant and Gold-Eagle Coop, retiring in 2002.

     Lillian and Don enjoyed many camping trips to the mountains with their family.  A cabin in Minnesota was their favorite relaxing and fishing spot.

    Lillian passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the age of 80 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 2010; son, Michael in 2015; brother, Carroll “Curly” Ernst and sisters, Blanche Wallace (Marvin) and Esther Hauck (Bud).

    Survivors include her sons, Richard Christensen and wife Jessica of Eagle Grove and Gary Christensen and wife Paula of Cottage Grove, MN; daughter, Lisa Johnson and husband Brad of Shawnee, KS; twelve wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred “Mickey: Schmidt of Greeley, CO; a special niece, Sharon Fontana of Humboldt; daughter-in-law, Pam Christensen of Eagle Grove and sisters-in-law, Kathryn Ernst of Humboldt and Mary Ellen Christensen of Eagle Grove.

      Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. 

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
