Lorene Mary (LaBarr) Maier

Lorene Mary (LaBarr) Maier, the daughter of Ralph and Cecil (Norton) LaBarr, was born on June 15, 1919, in rural Galt, Iowa, where she was raised and educated.

     On November 28, 1940, Lorene was united in marriage with Joseph E. Maier, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.  The couple made their home on his family farm, where they lived until moving into Eagle Grove in 1989.  Joseph preceded her in death on August 10, 1992.

     Lorene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, KYN neighborhood club, card clubs and charter member of Beta Sigma Phi.

     Lorene enjoyed dancing, playing golf, gardening, flowers, embroidery and listening to the radio.  She also loved traveling with Joseph and the many bus trips taken.

     Lorene passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 99 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph Jr.; sisters, Irene Poulson, Emma Wray and Phyllis Reines and son-in-law, Roger Wepel.

     Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Wepel of Eagle Grove and Janet Sanders (Roy) of Eagle Grove; three grandchildren, Robert Wepel (Teresa), Rodney Wepel and Brad Sanders;  six great-grandchildren:  Lyndsey Wepel, Whitney Davidson (Jason), Marc Botts (Jessica) and Hillari, Denton and Phoebe Sanders and nine great great-grandchildre

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Jerry Blake officiating.  Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. 

     Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
