Margaret Wingert Obituary

Margaret Kay Wingert, formerly Margaret Kay Smith was born on October 29, 1953 in Fort Dodge,Iowa and died April 8th. 2019 in Vancouver Canada, BC.  She was one of six children born to Wilbur G. Smith and Mary Wehrheim Smith. The family lived across from Sacred Heart Church and school in the 1950’s. Several of the children attended Sacred Heart school, and were members of Sacred Heart Church. Their house later was the rectory and later sold. Her mother, Mary Elizabeth Wehrheim tragically died in 1957 after which the family became separated for years. 1n 1981 the family was reunited in Denver thanks to John Henneberry a close family friend. He had promised her grandmother, the late Katherine Wehrheim, that he would find a way to have the family reunited and was a guest at that reunion in Denver. Margaret graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona Iowa. After graduation she stayed with her sister Jane in Denver and took care of Jane’s daughter Nicole.

Margaret eventually made her way to Oregon, Washington and eventually Vancouver B.C. In Canada she was a nanny for a doctor’s daughter and formed a deep relationship with the daughter, Kate, and the family. Margaret was plagued with many serious illnesses over her lifetime; the last one being cancer which took her life. She bore all her sufferings with little complaint. She was a cheerful loving sister and friend. She was always more concerned with others than herself. She loved God above all, and her siblings, Jane (Larry) Jagodzinski, James (Theresa) Smith, Nancy (Ron) Yelvington, Elizabeth(Tim) Check and Gary Jeffers. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. A Memorial Mass was celebrated in Vancouver, Canada.  A funeral mass will be held on April 26, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove followed by graveside services at Calvary Cemetery.

Margaret will be buried with her mother Mary Elizabeth Wehrheim.
