Suzanne 'Susie" Marie (Russell) Long

Suzanne Marie (Russell) Long, youngest of nine and daughter of Leo F. and H. Louise (Benton) Russell, was born on December 12, 1964, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1983.  She then attended Iowa Central Community College and later received her Registered Nursing degree.  Susie spent her nursing career caring for patients at the Hamilton Hospital/Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater Mn and Mosaic in Wright County Iowa.  She was also an EMT in Eagle Grove for many years.

     Susie and her daughter Alexis lived in Eagle Grove and Stillwater MN. With the birth of Alexis’s children Makaya and Tevin, Susie found a new passion as grandmother.

     Susie married Craig Long on July 26, 2014 in Webster City, Iowa and her family expanded to include Craig’s three children and a new grandson.  Spending time playing, supporting and loving their joined family was the focus of their life.   Craig and Susie made their home in Eagle Grove and enjoyed their “home away from home” camping with friends and family every opportunity they could get.

     Susie’s bright smile, kind heart and quick sense of humor touched everyone who knew her. 

     Surrounded by her family, Susie passed away at the age of 54 years on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, after battling cancer with courage and grace for ten months.  She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Darlo and Joyce Long; brothers-in-law, Keith Chase and Dennis Britson and niece Nikki Russell.

     Susie is survived by her husband, Craig Long of Eagle Grove; daughters, Alexis Toillion  of North Liberty and her children, Tevin and Makaya, Kelsea Long of Ankeny and Kaeli Long of Perry; son, Kenrick Long and his son, Oliver of Perry; siblings: Jackie Lockwood (Rick) of Leavenworth, KS, Tony Russell (Mary) of Fort Dodge, Andy Russell (Marilyn) of Gilmore City, Paulette Cirksena of Eagle Grove, Shelly Chase of Zimmerman, MN, Marybeth Russell of Eagle Grove, Pat Russell (Laurie) of Eagle Grove, Paul Russell of Goldfield, and Kathy Keeling (Bob) of Clarion; and numerous other family and friends whose life she touched.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jerry Blake Celebrating.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 2:30 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove
