Arliss Jean (Rice) Helgevold

Arliss Jean Helgevold, the daughter of Arthur C. and Inga J. (Lilledahl) Rice, was born on March 27, 1937, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and was a proud member of the “Class of 1955”.  Arliss worked in childcare and for Wilson's.

     On August 28, 1964, Arliss was united in marriage to Howard C. Helgevold, Jr. at the United Methodist Church in Webster City.  Howard preceded her in death on July 12, 2015. 

     Arliss enjoyed her weekly salon visits, shopping trips to Fort Dodge, reading novels, family trips, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, attending to her flowers and cooking delicious meals.  She was devoted to God and enjoyed watching Christian Worship services while at home and reading her favorite scriptures.

         Arliss was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church – she was baptized and confirmed at the old church building.

     Arliss passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home at the age of 85 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Cecile Rice, Olive Swendson (Kenny)and Gloria Stensland (LeRoyn).

     Survivors include her children: Brenda Helgevold of Clarion, Scott Helgevold of Eagle Grove, Tricia Haupt of Dows and Lisa Wirhanowicz (Tony) of Buckeye; grandchildren: Jeremy Huston, Katie Chapman, Jon Huston, Jordan Chapman, Krista Huston, Alex Hilpipre and MacKenzie Haupt and great grandchildren: Hunter, Gracen, Alyvia, Violet, Ayden, Autumn “Stella”, Leo and Kaden.

     Per Arliss’s request, no funeral is planned.  Her family will gather for a Celebration of Life at a later date. Rest in peace, we will miss you dearly!

     Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
