William “Bill” Karl Mintun, the son of Oliver and Florence (Mattis) Mintun, was born September 20, 1941, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Council Bluffs.
Bill was united in marriage with Virginia Cupp on March 17th 1963, at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. To this union four children were born: Cathy, Chrissy, Stevie and Mark. The family lived in Council Bluffs, Eagle Grove, DuQuoin Illinois, Eldon, Thor and in Humboldt for the past 6 years.
Bill worked as the Mechanic in charge at the Northwestern Railroad for 23 years. He enjoyed the many years coaching a slow pitch softball team and was very active in harness racing.
Bill passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 81 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cathy Page; sister, Phyllis Zaluga; brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Betty Neumann; niece, Diane Frieze; nephew, Darin Neumann; mother and father-in-law, Louis and Grace Cupp and sister-in-law, Shirley Holtan.
Bill is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny); daughters: Chrissy Mathews of Humboldt, and Stevie Gould (Jay) of Badger; son, Mark (Brenda) Mintun of Perry; brother, Jim (Marilyn) Mintun of Burlington; sister, Jackie Triplett of Council Bluffs; grandchildren: Travis (Tanya) Gould of Johnston, Trevor (Paloma) Gould of Ames, Courtney Guidry of Humboldt, Tannor (Jessica) Gould of Fort Dodge, James Gould and Justin Gould of Humboldt, Tristan, Alana and Quentin Mintun of Perry; 9 great grandchildren, and he was also known as “Pop” to Trent, Troy and Tye Schoon and “Grandpa” to Megan (Matt) Lucky, Chase (Samantha) Schoon and Morgan Schoon and many nieces and nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral home in Eagle Grove with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.
