Carroll Lorelle Vorrie, the son of John and Ida (Sheldon) Vorrie, was born on August 7, 1927, on a family farm near Thor, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. He attended country school, Norway No. 9 in Humboldt County and Eagle Grove High School. In 1945, at the age of 17, Carroll enlisted in the United States Navy Medical Corp, during W.W. II. At the time of his honorable discharge, he served as a Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Charleston, SC. In 1947, Carroll returned home and completed his senior year at Eagle Grove High School. He then started farming a family farm north of Thor.
On September 5, 1948, Carroll was united in marriage with Betty Bradley, at the Badger Lutheran Church. They made their home on the family farm north of Thor. In 1955, they moved to their Century Farm south of Thor. In 1971, sons Dennis and Duane joined him in farming. In 1988, after 40 years of farming, Carroll and Betty moved to Fort Dodge, but he always enjoyed helping on the farm after retiring.
Carroll was a life-long member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church, where he served on several church boards. He was also a member of Adams American Legion Post 119 for 50 plus years and the Sons of Norway.
Carroll enjoyed fishing trips to northern Minnesota and Canada and the many bus trips and travels to the Scandinavian Countries, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico, he and Betty took.
