Darlene "Toby" Solis

Darlene Solis, the daughter of Keith Ellis and Lois Mae (Packard) McCurry, was born September 15, 1946, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in Renwick and graduated from Boone Valley High School. 

Toby was married to Skip Janson and had two sons, Rod and Scott.  They later divorced.  She then married Geno Solis and they had two children, Meka and Beau.  They also later divorced.

Toby graduated from La’ James College and Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.  She taught at La’ James in Fort Dodge for many years before working as a payroll accountant at ADS in Eagle Grove, retiring in 2019.

Toby enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, cooking, playing cards, scrabble, traveling and loved to paint.  She also loved her Lord reading the Bible three times.  Toby was the family historian, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren.

Toby passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, at the age of 74 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Scott McCurry; sister, Diane Mrazek and her husband, Rich and a nephew, Shawn Frank.

Toby is survived by her children: Rodney (Paula) Janson of Cambridge, IL and their son, Reid; Scott (Katie) Janson of Cambridge, IL and their children, Amelia, Kourtnie, Nick and Blake and a great granddaughter, Mila; Meka Solis of Bancoft and her children, Riley, Hannah, Chase, Elic and Taegan and Beau (Stephanie) Solis of Prior Lake, MN and their children, Kaiya, Jaeger and Beckett; sisters, Donna (Don) Frank of Fridley, MN, Deb (Mike) Smith of Brooklyn Park, MN and Darcy (Kenny) Sisson of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law, Ellen McCurry of Eagle Grove; several special nieces and nephews and numerous “adopted” sons and daughters.

Visitation – open to the public - will be held at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Thursday, January 28, 2021, from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family and can be mailed to Meka Solis at P.O. box 104, Bancroft, Iowa 50517
