Dennis Wayne Rasmussen

Dennis Wayne Rasmussen, the son of Harold (Bud) Rasmussen and Ruth (Nelson) Rasmussen-Eudy, was born on September 2, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in rural Goldfield, graduating from Boone Valley High School in 1967.  Dennis served in the United States Army beginning in the summer of 1970 being drafted to the Vietnam War until he was hardship discharged in spring of 1971.  After being discharged, he returned home to help on the family farm, until 1983.  He then went to drive truck for Abbas Trucking in Humboldt, Iowa from 1983-1984.  From there he drove truck for Umthun Trucking of Eagle Grove, Iowa from 1984-1987.  He then drove truck for Crete Trucking Line out of Lincoln, Nebraska for 29 years, retiring in 2015.

     On March 1, 1969, Dennis was united in marriage to Marion Hoppe.  They made their home in rural Goldfield.  To this union 5 children were born.  In 1983, they divorced.  In 1986, Dennis married Nancy Jones.  They divorced in 2000. 

      Dennis loved his family, especially growing up with his Grandpa Pete.   He loved watching his granddaughters growing up when he was home from trucking.  He was an avid antique John Deere tractor collector.  He loved working on tractors.  He also enjoyed going on tractor rides across the Midwest, with his favorites being a trip to Michigan across the Mackinaw Bridge in 2017 and riding the Black Hills in September 2018.  He always liked going to the Mecum tractor auctions in Davenport to add to the green fleet.

      Dennis passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 70 years.  He was preceded in death by his father, Harold (Bud) Rasmussen; daughters, Amy and Melissa Rasmussen; son, Robert Rasmussen and grandson, Kurtis Wayne Rasmussen.

       He is survived by his mother, Ruth Rasmussen-Eudy of Eagle Grove; son, Scott Rasmussen (Jennifer) of Goldfield; daughter, Angela Johnson (Jason) of Grimes; brothers, Galen Rasmussen (Kathy) of Eagle Grove and Bruce Rasmussen (Stephanie) of Goldfield; three granddaughters, Sarah and Emily Rasmussen and Kate Swan (Kory) of Ankeny; one great-grandson, Hux; uncle, Harold Nelson (Betty) of VA and many nieces, nephews, cousins in California and friends.

       Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. from Lake Lutheran Church in rural Goldfield.  Visitation is Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.  Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.

         Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
