Obituary

       Donald Daniel Kelly, the son of Timothy (Max) and Emma (Olson) Kelly, was born on October 28, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was raised on a farm in Lincoln Township and educated in Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1963, where he participated in FFA. Don attended auto mechanics school in Aberdeen.

       He enlisted in the Army and served from 1963 to 1966, achieving a rank of PFC E3 and proud to serve in An Kehe, Vietnam from 1965 to 1966.

       In 1969, Don married Patricia Jett in LaPorte City, they divorced and later re-married in 1990 Cedar Falls.

       He worked as a truck driver for different companies including Ellsworth Freight Lines and his own company, Kelly Trucking Co hauling grain.  Don worked at the Post office for many years until he retired in 2002, starting as a driver and later promoted to a dispatcher. He lived in Faribault, MN for 20 years and moved to Eagle Grove in 2008.

       Don was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W in Humboldt, American Legion in Eagle Grove, AmVets, Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club. He participated in the “Vote for the Democratic Party” and volunteered with the Disabled American Veterans Charity. Don was a 5-year commander of DAV Chapter 20 in Faribault and received an award for Vet of the Year in 2008 in Faribault. Don enjoyed motorcycle riding and his handle was “Mad Irishman”.

       Don passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge at the age of 79 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kyle Kelly and granddaughter Lorraine Wuebker.

      He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kelly of Eagle Grove; children: William (Mary) Kelly of Newton, Trisha (Dirk) Monaghan of Bedford, Carmen (Randy) McColley of Albert Lea, MN; with his first wife Catherine: Rob (Shelly) Kelly of Idaho, James Kelly of Auburn, WA, Timothy Kelly of Auburn, WA, Stanley (Veronica) Kelly of St. Louis, MO; with his third wife Sandra: Christopher Kelly of Faribault, MN; those that he loved like his own, Rachelle (J.C.) Rohde of Bonnie Lake, WA and Mary (Greg) Sheppard of Renwick; several grand and great-grandchildren; siblings: Raymond Kelly of Waterloo, John Kelly of Waterloo, Nancy (Jerry) Stoll of Denver, IA, Robert (Christa) Kelly of Cedar Falls, Bill (Shelia) Kelly of Grundy Center, Patrick Kelly of Waterloo and Mark (Terri) Kelly of Hudson.

     Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The burial will be at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

     Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
