Donovan F. Back

     Donovan Frederick Back, the son of Chris and Miah (Petersen) Back, was born on March 8, 1932, in Exira, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Exira High School in 1950.  In 1952, Donovan was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1954.

      Donovan was united in marriage to Julien Joy Gaskill on May 19, 1952, in Audubon, Iowa. 

      Donovan owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store in Eagle Grove from 1962-1966.  He also worked at JC Penny’s, for Cornell Deeney at the Ford Dealership, opened a furniture store and sold Platt Books in 3 states. He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Audubon and Eagle Grove.   Donovan enjoyed woodworking, traveling and craft shows.

       Donovan passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020, at Crestview Manor in Webster City at the age of 87 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julien in 2016; infant children and sister, Alice Kyndeson.

     Survivors include his daughter, Jackie (Paul) Campbell of Eagle Grove; two grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell (Wyatt Haas) of Goldfield and Justin (Brandy) Campbell of Ankeny; great grandson, Asa Campbell; sister, Catherine Schmidt of Exira and sister-in-law, Zona Bartel of Nashville, TN

    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
