Doris Olson Obituary

Doris May (Kurfman) Olson, the daughter of Owen and Ida (Gleckler) Kurfman, was born on June 8, 1927, in Galesburg, Illinois.  Her mother, Ida, died in 1928.  Her father, Owen, married Lola Turner in 1930.  They raised and educated Doris and the family in Renwick, Iowa.  Doris graduated from Renwick High School in 1945. After graduation, she went to work for Meredith Publishing Co. in Des Moines.

    On June 1, 1947, Doris was united in marriage with Duane “Bill” Olson at the Baptist Church in Renwick.  They farmed in the Goldfield area until 1960.  Doris worked at Coast-to-Coast Store in Eagle Grove, and she was an administrative assistant for the Goldfield Community Schools for 20 years.  She retired in 1992. 

    Doris loved to garden, visit with family and friends, read and travel.  She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Goldfield Women’s Group, Sew-Sew Club, Bayview Club, and Ladies Card Club. 

    Doris passed away at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at the age of 92 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, Steven, and brothers, Richard Kurfman, Roger Kurfman and Warren Kurfman.  

    Survivors include her children, Carol Helmke of Eagle Grove, Sheila Merrell and husband Bert of St. Louis, MO, David Olson and wife Larayne of Sioux City and Annette Rust and husband Jeff of Littleton, CO; daughter-in-law, Juanita Rivera Olson of Kapaau, HI; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Leah Knight of Palmyra, MO and Carolyn Roseberry of Souderton, PA; brother, Wendell Kurfman and wife Connie of Belleville, IL; sister-in-law, Patricia Lenz of Story City, and many nieces and nephews.

    Private Family Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Sara Sutter officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
