George Callen Stansbury

George Callen Stansbury, the son of Callen and Margaret (Midland) Stansbury, was born on April 30, 1955, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1973.  The day of his high school graduation was his first day working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.

     Shortly thereafter, he transferred to the Soo Line Railroad in the Twin Cities, where he spent the remainder of his 42 year career.

     He was united in marriage with Kayla Erickson on August 17, 1985 in Glenwood, MN.  The couple later divorced.

     On August 21, 1999, George was united in marriage with Jeanine (Schultz) McCart in Eagle Grove, making their home in Glenwood, MN.  After retiring in July of 2015, they returned to Eagle Grove to be closer to family.

     As a line from his favorite movie “George, you really had a wonderful life.”  He never met a stranger, often going out of is way to help anyone he saw that needed something.  Probably all who knew him could tell a story where he made a difference in their life.

     George loved playing cards with family and friends, watching sports and attending his grandson’s games.  He loved to travel the U.S. including traveling to many of the Nascar racing tracks.

      George passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the age of 64 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Callen and Margaret Stansbury and infant sister, Marlys Stansbury.

      George is survived by  his wife, Jeanine; sons, Joseph Stansbury of Wahpeton, ND and Michael Stansbury of Baxter, MN; step-daughters, Melia Hansen (Nathan) of Goldfield and Myndi Grimsley Matt) of Eagle Grove; grandchildren: Logan Hansen, Tyler Hansen and MJ Grimsley; sisters, Martha Grice (Jim) of Norwalk and Mary Swalin (Tim) of Eagle Grove; brother, Dave Stansbury of Eagle Grove and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

     Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with a luncheon to follow at The Depot.  Visitation is Thursday, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.  Foust Funeral Homes, Eagle Grove in charge of arrangements.

     Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
