Gloria A. (Rice) Stensland

Gloria Adeline (Rice) Stensland, the daughter of Arthur Carl and Inga Johanna (Lilledahl) Rice, was born on September 21, 1929, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.   She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1947.   Gloria worked at the Boston Store in Fort Dodge.

     Gloria was united in marriage with LeRoyn Stensland on March 2, 1949, at the East Side Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.  They made their home briefly on the Stensland family farm, then 16 years on a farm northeast of Thor and settled on a farm west of Thor, enjoying 57 years of marriage.  LeRoyn preceded her in death on April 12, 2006.

     Gloria was an active, longtime member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church and church circle.  She was also an active member of the Humboldt Community Chorus and American Legion Auxiliary.  Gloria loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and singing.

       Gloria passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at the Humboldt South Care Center, at the age of 91 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Cecile Rice and Olive Swendson (Kenneth); brothers-in-law: Vernon Stensland (Agnes and Noreen), Darryl Stensland (Joan), John Sandvig and Howard Helgevold and sister-in-law, JoAnn Halverson (Joe).

     Survivors include her three sons: David Stensland (Diann) of Thor, Don Stensland (Roberta) of Webster City and Fred Stensland (Leny) of Thor; eight grandchildren: Ryan Stensland (Abbe), Lynsy Harrigan (Andy), Laura Stensland-Cady (Sam), Amanda Stensland, Derek Stensland (Katie), Ryan Pruismann (Jody), Rhett Pruismann and Ralissa Hurt (Tim); 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Arliss Helgevold of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law, Del Sandvig of Humboldt and many nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Pastor Darryl Landsverk officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time.  Burial in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor.
