Irene B. (Halverson) Olson

Irene Berniece (Halverson) Olson, the daughter of John and Inga (Twedt) Halverson, was born on October 5, 1927, in Eagle Grove, Iowa.  She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove and graduated with the Class of 1945.

      In 1949, Irene married Bob Lunt in Des Moines. They raised three daughters, Linda, Bobbie and Lisa in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The couple divorced in 1978.

      Irene worked for Mile High Sales Agency in Denver, until her retirement in 1992.  She then returned to Eagle Grove to be near her family in her retirement years.

      Irene and Vince Olson were wed on February 5, 1994.  They loved life together in Eagle Grove and enjoyed numerous winters in Arizona.

      Irene was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling and growing flowers. Irene was known for her delicious pressure-cooked roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy.  Her crinkle cut homemade fries were her signature!

        Irene passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at 95.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roger, Joe (JoAnn) and Carl and sisters, Hilda and Olga.

     She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Vince; daughters: Linda Abel (Mike) of Broomfield, CO, Bobbie McHenry (Donnie) of Canton, GA and Lisa Grindle of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren: John, Joe, Mathias, Mitchell and Rose; six great-grandchildren: Stella, Samuel, Carson, Camille, Marla and Margeaux; brother, Don Halverson (Doryce) of Eagle Grove; sisters-in-law, Addie Halverson of Eden Prairie, MN and Dee Halverson of Eagle Grove and many nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, 10:30 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating, with visitation from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

     Memorials in her honor may be directed to Eagle Grove Evangelical Church for youth programs.
