Obituary

John Allan Lippincott II was born on September 21, 1945, in Jackson, Michigan, the oldest son of John and Margery (Lynk) Lippincott. The family moved to Iowa when John was nine years old. He graduated in 1964 from Malvern High School as salutatorian of his class and also received the American Citizenship Award. He attended Michigan State University for three years and then enlisted for two tours in Vietnam (1969-1971). On his return, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa. He was licensed as a CPA and was employed by State of Iowa in the State Auditor’s Office and, later, the Department of Human Services, retiring in 2008. John married Nancy (Christensen) Witt on August 3, 1991, celebrating 31 years of marriage this year.

John loved astronomy, role-playing games, dark chocolate, Marvel Comics, rock and roll music, amusement parks, and Halloween. After convincing his family to visit Disneyland in 1963, John and Nancy visited Disney World several times over the years, often taking family members along with them. John and Nancy enjoyed attending programs at the Des Moines Civic Center and the Drake Municipal Observatory. They also loved to travel, including cruises to the Virgin Islands and Hawaii, England, as well as many trips to Michigan to visit beloved relatives.

John passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Nancy, son Ryan (Tracie) Witt, grandsons Logan and Cooper, sisters, Katherine Genevieve Davidge and Anne Lippincott (Steve Braudt), his “Michigan sister” Alix Jenkins, a number of nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
