Judy Kay (Hirsch) Wanken

Judy Kay (Hirsch)Wanken, was born July 27, 1943, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Kenneth and Lucille (Gunder) Hirsch. She grew up and was educated in Eagle Grove.

     Judy was united in marriage with Francis Eugene Wanken on May 18, 1963, whom she stayed married to for 57 years, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.  Francis preceded her in death on February 13, 2021.

     Judy was a stay-at-home mom who took care of her family. She loved watching her grandchildren and grand dogs. She was always prepared for neighbors and friends to come over with a cup of coffee and conversation.  She also had a passion for gardening; her house always contained many flowers both inside and outside and every year she planted vegetables, sharing them with everyone.

    Judy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens of Eagle Grove. Judy enjoyed visiting people in the nursing home.

Throughout her life, she always had a furry companion and appreciated when family and friends brought their cats and dogs over to visit.

     Judy passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Rotary Senior Living, at the age of 78 years.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Lucille Hirsch; three brothers: Eugene, Dennis and Gary Hirsch; sister, Karen Williams and grandson Cody Wanken.

     Judy is survived by her daughter, Lori Hungate (Mike) of Eagle Grove; son, Rick Wanken (Susan) of Hampton; daughter, Rebecca Das of Eagle Grove; sister, Lois Otto of Eagle Grove; brother, Mike Hirsch (Caroline) of Eagle Grove; brother-in-law, Robert Williams of Corwith; eight grandchildren; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

      Visitation is Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with Rosary and Vigil services at 1:15 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, February 28, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jerry Blake, celebrating.

        Memorials may be left to the discretion off the family.
