Kenneth Axon Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Axon, the son of Clifford & Luella (McCutcheon) Axon, was born on February 25, 1927, in Goldfield, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1944.  Kenny served in the United States Army during W.W. II, he was drafted into active duty in Leghorn, Italy until 1947.  He transported Red Cross supplies & then transferred into the finance department where he exchanged foreign currency.

After serving his country, he co-owned the local DX Gas Station with Don Wald, in Goldfield, Iowa.

Kenny was united in marriage with Mary Mildred Nelson at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield.   The couple made their home on the family farm in Goldfield where they worked & raised four daughters.   Kenny was the general Manager and President of the Board for the Goldfield Telephone Company for many years.  He also served in the position of Outside Plant Supervisor, wherein he replaced miles and miles of telephone poles and strung new line wires across them, helping Goldfield Telephone to become a very progressive company.  They moved to town after he retired at age 62.

Kenny enjoyed fishing, dancing, carpentry, tinkering, & fixing anything he could.  He would often say, “I have enough tools to overhaul a semi-truck”. He enjoyed many summers with family & friends at Clear Lake & Lake Cornelia.

He was an active lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee, session member & head usher for 50+ years.

He was a member of Evergreen Sporting Association, Isaac Walton & the American Legion, where he served as an officer.

Kenny passed away on March 5, 2021, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation, at the age of 94 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford & Luella Axon; wife, Mary; daughter, Jayne Axon Schipull; brother, Mervin Axon and wife Betty; infant brother, Clifford Axon, Jr. and son-in-law, James Johnson.
