Larry Jene Holding

    Larry Jene Holding, the son of Clifford and Georgia Rae (Allen) Holding, was born on March 4, 1934, in Burt, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Burt High School “Class of 1952”. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Peru State College, Peru Nebraska in 1968 and his Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1969.

    On July 21, 1951 he married Palma Joy Olson at the Methodist Church in Corwith, Iowa. Larry was an independent distributor for Borden Dairy Company from 1957 to 1965 before starting college. After college graduation Larry taught and coached at Southeast Consolidated High School in Stella Nebraska for nine years before moving to Iowa where he was Guidance Counselor and Athletic Director at Clarion-Goldfield Schools for 19 years. He retired in 1996 to care for his wife, “Sweetie” as he lovingly referred to her to friends and family for the next 22 years until her passing.

    Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church and Eagle Grove Masonic Lodge. Larry’s hobbies included playing golf, poker, any other card game known, and taking trips to visit children and grandchildren participating in many academic and sporting events county wide.   He also loved attending the College World Series in Omaha NE was among his and Palma Joy’s favorite yearly trips.

    Larry passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the “Landing at Watermere” in Frisco Texas, at the age of 85 years old. He was preceded in death by; his wife, Palma Joy; father, Clifford; mother, Georgia; step-mother, Velma Holding; father-in-law Paul Olson; brother, Kaye Holding and his wife Eileen and nephews, Bruce Olson and Bruce Holding Jr.

    Survivors include his four children: Valarie Andrew (Mike) of Oak Point TX, Brad Holding (Terry Meyer) of Eagle Grove IA, Brenda Lessor (Denis) of Kansas City MO, and Vaughn Holding (Linda) of Ayr NE; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Holding (Diane) of Montana; brothers-in-law, Ladell Olson (Judy) of Eagle Grove IA and Larry Lynn Olson (Nancy) of Conrad IA and many more family members

   Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor James Roth officiating.

   Memorials may be left to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the charity of your choice.
