Leila E. (Henely) Lenning

Leila Eugenia Lenning, died on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Parkway Senior Living in Blue Springs, at the age of 94 years.  Funeral services will be held at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time.  Burial in East Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor.                

 Leila Eugenia (Henely) Lenning was born to Arthur and Madge Randall Henely in Clarion, IA on November 9, 1926.  Leila attended Dayton Center School in Wright County, Eagle Grove High School and attended one year of college.

 She worked as a telephone operator in Fort Dodge and at J.C. Penney’s as a salesclerk.

 Leila married Floyd Lenning in Fort Dodge on February 26, 1946.  Leila met Floyd at a dance where Floyd was with his cousin who pointed out that two girls were looking at them.  Floyd’s cousin told him he could have the short one and he’d take the tall one! 

 Leila spent most of her life in Thor and Eagle Grove.  She also lived in Clear Lake and then moved to Blue Springs, MO.

 She was a member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, American Legion Auxiliary, along with being active in Neighborhood Club, Reading Club, Library Club and Knitting Club.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and three brothers.

 She is survived by her son Richard Lenning (Carol Jo) of Blue Springs, MO; daughter Susan Nicklaus (Steve) of Clear Lake; grandchildren: Shelly (Troy) Turner of Roland, Kimberly (Chad) Lentz of Eagan, MN, Eric (Sherry) Lenning of Chicago, IL, Amy Robinson of Blue Springs, MO; great-grandchildren: Nicklaus Turner of Ames, Turner of Roland, Nathaniel and Ethan Lenning of Chicago, IL and Maya Robinson of Blue Springs, MO along with special nieces Sondra (Robert) Carden of Webster City and Shirley (Carroll) Spangler of Ankeny and other nieces and nephews.

 Memorials may be left to the Eagle Grove Memorial Library – in memory of Leila’s love of reading.
