Margaret Madson Obituary

Margaret Madson, the daughter of William and Inez (Reinhart) Harmon, was born on July 9, 1919, in Jolly Iowa. She was raised and educated in Pomeroy, except for a period of time living in Three Hills in Alberta, Canada.  She has many wonderful memories and loved living in Canada.  At age 11, the family moved back to the states.

On December 21, 1938, Margaret was united in marriage to Harold Madson in Webster City, Iowa. To this union, they had 4 children. The couple lived in Eagle Grove, Renwick and Hardy before moving back to Eagle Grove in 1952.

Margaret was a stay-at-home mother while the children were young and then worked for A &W, Vilmain Grocery, and Dodger Industries in later years. She was active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church including where she was active in Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Guild. Everybody loved Margaret’s baking and cooking, especially her homemade cinnamons and cookies.  She was well noted for her hugs - they were like a death grip filled with love.  Margaret loved cooking, baking, playing cards in card clubs, crocheting and most of all, visiting with people. She really didn’t know a stranger.

Margaret passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the age of 104 years with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Inez Harmon; husband of 62 years, Harold Madson; siblings: Ed Harmon, Cecilia Ziems, Paul Harmon, Dorothy Knierim and sons: Jim Madson and Robert Lloyd Madson.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Lois McIver of Eagle Grove; Son, Stan Madson (Donna)of Eagle Grove; daughter-in-law, Doris Madson of Eagle Grove; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 15 great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
