Mark A. Thielen

Mark Anthony Thielen, the son of Joseph C. and Myrtle J. (Minor), was born January 19, 1952, at Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School “Class of 1970”.

       On June 6, 1992, Mark was united in marriage with Debra Smith at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield.

    Mark – a real “people person” - joined his parents at Eagle Bowl in 1978 and continued to manage it after their retirement until its closure in 2005.  Mark was an avid bowler, starting from a very young age and bowled for many years in numerous tournaments and state events.  He then drove a Feed Truck for Gold Eagle until his retirement in 2018.

       Mark was definitely known as a “car guy”, he liked working on cars and watching races.  He also enjoyed family camping trips, attending Dylan’s sporting events, the Hawkeyes and the Cubs. 

    Mark passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020, at Mercy One in Des Moines, at the age of 68 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Jo in 2011; great-niece, Amanda Jo Lalor and great-nephew, Damian Huffaker.

     Mark is survived by his wife, Deb Thielen of Eagle Grove; son, Dylan Thielen of Des Moines; sister, Mary Wolver (Steve) of Urbandale; brother, Michael Thielen (Margaret) of Eagle Grove; mother-in-law, Sharon Seibert (Jim) of Eagle Grove; sisters-in-law, Denise Moore (Jim) of Altoona and Lisa Brott (Larry) of Des Moines and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

     Private family services will be held.

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
