Mary Sadler Obituary

Mary Jean (Voss) Sadler, the daughter of Albert and Amy (Johnson) Voss, was born on February 7, 1932, in rural Duncombe, Webster County, Iowa.  She was educated through the 8th grade at Fremont Township School in Hamilton County and graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the “Class of 1950”.

On February 4, 1951, Mary was united in marriage to Richard Sadler at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. After 66 years of marriage, Dick preceded her in death on December 13, 2017.

In September of 2021, Mary moved to Rotary Senior Living, where she embraced her new surroundings, did her best to make it home and built relationships with residents and staff. Mary’s family would like to thank the Rotary Senior Living staff for their exceptional care.

Mary loved spending time with all her family at the lake cabin, playing cards, and making sure each child, grandchild and great grandchild felt loved and special.

Mary passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 91 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Richard; daughter, Maria Amonson; parents, Albert and Amy Voss; in-laws, Matt and Irene Sadler; son-in-law, Loren Thomason; great-granddaughter, Quinn TerHorst; sister, Doris Will (Harvey); brothers, Dick Voss (Sharon) and Marvin Voss (Eleonor); sister-in-law, Joann Voss; brother-in-law, Rich Ellsworth and nieces, Julie and Sue.

Survivors include her children: Mike (Sally) Sadler of Eagle Grove, Tim (Marcia) Sadler of Eagle Grove, Nancy (Denny) Vandewater of Eagle Grove, Mitch (Kathy) Sadler of Fort Dodge, Amy (Paul) Maris of Milford, Teresa Sadler of Eagle Grove and David (Paula) Sadler of West Des Moines; son-in-law, Kirby Amonson of West Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; many loved step grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Leonard Voss of Eagle Grove; sisters, Marge Ellsworth of Mason, OH and Janice (Jack) Turk of St. Charles, IL; brother-in-law, Larry (Marilyn) Sadler of Eagle Grove and several nieces, nephews and friends.

After most of a lifetime proclaiming the hope of Jesus to whoever she talked to, and being a loving and faithful prayer warrior and encourager, Mary completed her journey and was called home and walked “Through the Gates of Splendor” entering the presence of her Savior, Jesus, the joy of her life.  She looked forward to Heaven, it was not just a ‘someday” or “ I hope” type of longing but an absolute surety, Psalm 73: 23-24 ‘’Yet I am always with You”; You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into Glory.”
