Michael W. Dornath

Michael Waldron Dornath, 60, of Thor, IA, passed away at home unexpectedly on February 12, 2021. He was born June 15, 1960 in Fort Dodge, IA, to Meinhard and Darlene (Waldron) Dornath. He lived his first two years of life in Eagle Grove and his last 58 years on his family’s century farm. Mike graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1978 and then attended Iowa State University, majoring in Agronomy. He worked for the Answer Farm by Duncombe, IA, and NEW Coop in Vincent, IA, as well as for several area farmers before working for many years at the Chantland Co. in Humboldt, IA. He then drove semi as an owner operator for ATI, Inc. and when they closed, drove for Decker Truck Line, both of Fort Dodge, IA. Mike started farming the family farm in 1993, eventually acquiring land of his own.

Mike was well traveled across the United States and Canada, first with his family and later with friends on motorcycles. He made several trips to the Sturgis, SD, Annual Motorcycle Rally but he also made many solo trips, going wherever the wind blew him. He loved his motorcycles! He was an avid hunter and played high school baseball and slow pitch softball in his younger days. ‘Vid’ loved a good game of Space Invaders, Centipede, Pac Man, pinball, pool, darts, cards, backgammon or chess! He was also an AMAZING armchair Jeopardy contestant.

He is survived by his two sisters: Michelle (Jeruld) Dornath-Mohr, Bozeman, MT/Grant, AL, Katherine Dornath Cook, Eagle Grove, IA; seven nieces and nephews: Rebekah Mohr, Bozeman, MT, Naomi Mohr, Huntsville, AL, Hannah Mohr, Los Alamos, NM, Tabitha Mohr, Bozeman, MT, Seth Cook, Badger, IA, Thaddaeus Cook, Eagle Grove, IA, Anna Cook, Eagle Grove, IA, Great Niece: Zoe Bengston, Bozeman, MT, and his faithful dog Trebel. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents: L.W. and Hattie Waldron, John and Meinhardine Dornath, and niece Claire Cook.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.    Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
