Norman "Pork" Lester Obituary

Norman Ray Lester, 88 of Goldfield, IA, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion Iowa. 

      Norman Ray Lester was born on December 10, 1929 to Harry and Beatrice (Jones) Lester.  Norman graduated from Goldfield high school in 1949.  During high school Norman was a pitcher for the high school baseball team.  Norman lived his entire life in Goldfield.  Norman hauled milk for 13 years and then went to work for Moorman’s Feed Company. Norman retired from Moorman’s Feed Com pany on March 21, 1991. He then worked at the Oakridge Golf Course helping maintain the fairways for 16 years.

      On May 1, 1972 Norman married Pearl Elaine (Summers) McGrath and with this union Norman became the step-father to Dennis, Daryl, and Doug.  Norman served in the National Guard for nine years, was a member of Oakridge Golf Course, and the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield.

     Norman and Elaine enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota & Canada, golfing, trips to the casino and taking their grandchildren to Branson.  Norman enjoyed woodworking & made many pieces for his family.

     Norman Ray Lester is survived by his wife Elaine of 46 years; two sons, Dennis (Jane) of Clarion, Iowa, Douglas (Donna) of Cumming, Georgia, and daughter-in-law Jona McGrath of Clarion; Nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Lester (Bev) of Goldfield, Iowa; sisters, Arlene Terhark (Curtis) of St Ansgar, Iowa and Patricia McKnight of Brandon, South Dakota; sisters-in-law Lavonne Lester of Arkansas, Patricia Lester from Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.   Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice (Jones) and Harry Lester; son Daryl McGrath;  daughter-in-law, Sue (Rohrer) McGrath; brothers, Derwin, Floyd, and Arnold; sisters, Verla, Marilyn and Yvonne; sister-in-law Marvel Lester and brother-in-laws, Virgil Darland and Ronald McKnight. 

    Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
