Ramona DeYoung Obituary

     Ramona Rae DeYoung, the daughter of William L. and Ruth L. (Kerns) Goodchild, was born April 3, 1938, on the family farm in Pocahontas County, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the Havelock area and graduated from Mallard High School in 1957. She then attended Buena Vista College where she received her Teaching Degree.

    On December 27, 1959, Ramona was united in marriage to Art DeYoung at Havelock, Iowa. They moved to Eagle Grove where she taught 2nd grade until her daughters, Raedean and Linda, were born. Ramona also worked at several businesses in Eagle Grove.

    Ramona was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and served with Ruth Circle. She also enjoyed reading, watching sports and loved her grandchildren.

    Ramona passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at the age of 85 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gene Goodchild and a sister, Jeanine Goodchild. 

    Survivors include her husband, Art DeYoung of Eagle Grove; daughters, Raedean (David) VanDenover of Grimes and Linda DeYoung of Grimes; grandchildren, Rachel VanDenover of Iowa City, Ryan VanDenover of Grimes and Jenna VanDenover of Cedar Falls as well as other relatives and friends.
