Roy L. Hanshaw

Roy Lee Hanshaw, the son of Arnold and Helen (Brown) Hanshaw, was born on July 26, 1941, in West Virginia.  He was raised and educated in Summersville, West Virginia before joining the Navy in 1960 and serving until 1965 with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

      Roy was united in marriage with Betty (Jeanne) Larson on August, 1st, 1964 in San Diego, California.  To this union two children were born, Lawrence and Catherine.  The couple moved to Eagle Grove 1970.

      Roy worked for Umthun Trucking from 1970 to 1982 and for Smithway Trucking of Fort Dodge from 1982 until retiring in 2008.

      Roy enjoyed tinkering or restoring cars in the garage and his numerous pets over the years.   

      Roy passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Westview Care Center in Britt, at the age of 81 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Betty; son, Larry Hanshaw of Humboldt; daughter, Cathie Stein of Eagle Grove; granddaughters, Allison Stein and Josephina Hanshaw of Eagle Grove; brothers, Eddie (Malinda) Hanshaw of Troy, OH, and Perry (Trish) Hanshaw of Mt. Lookout, WV and sisters, Anna Painter of Statesville, NC, Janie Hughes (Forrest) of Summersville, WV and many nieces and nephews.

      A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.     

         Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
