Shirley Ann (Cupp) Holtan

Shirley Ann (Cupp) Holtan the daughter of Louis Ely & Grace May (Henderson) Cupp, was born April 16, 1945, in Clarion, IA. She graduated with the Class of 1963 from Eagle Grove High School. On March 15, 1964, Shirley was united in marriage to Mark Holtan at Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, IA. Mark and Shirley raised their family in several cities, including Storm Lake and Humboldt for 25 years. Shirley was very involved in church and community activities and followed a wide variety of school activities and sports of her children and grandchildren. She worked as the warranty claims administrator at Humboldt Motor Sales in Humboldt, Iowa for over 13 years. She truly enjoyed the years that she was able to be a stay-at-home Mom to her 4 children. Since 2004 Mark and Shirley have lived at the Holtan family farm near Thor. 

Shirley felt her greatest blessings were her husband Mark, children, and granddaughters. She spent all the time she could with her brother and sister, extended family and her lifelong friends. Shirley loved movies & popcorn, shopping days, summers at the pool or lake, and creating volumes of scrapbooks filled with love and precious memories of all she loved. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, amazing mother, and the greatest supporter of her granddaughters.  She truly valued her faith and her love of family and friends.”

Shirley is survived by her husband, Mark Holtan of 58 years; son, Rod Holtan of Humboldt, IA; son, Jeff Holtan and wife Cindy of Murfreesboro, TN and their daughter, Ally of West Des Moines, IA; daughter Heather Holtan of Ames, IA; daughter Heidi Dohlman and husband Ryan, and their daughter Braelyn of Cedar Falls, IA.  She is also survived by her brother Stan Cupp and wife Carol of Myrtle Creek, OR sister Virginia (Ginny) Mintun and husband Bill of Humboldt, IA; brother-in-law, Tim Holtan of Gilmore City, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Shirley passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Paula Baber Hospice Home, at the age of 77 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Ely and Grace Cupp; niece, Cathy Mintun; parents-in-law, Gilman and Edna Holtan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Lois Holtan and John and Kay (Holtan) Omasich; niece, Julie Holtan and nephews, Randy and Scott Holtan.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor.  Visitation is Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
