Steve Whyte

December 29, 1946 ~ March 2, 2021 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Steve Whyte Obituary

     John Stevenson Whyte III, the son of John and Marjorie (Hilderbrand) Whyte Jr., was born December 29, 1946, at Fort Dodge, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in Goldfield graduating from Goldfield High School in 1965.  In 1969, Steve graduated from Upper Iowa University where he received a teaching degree.

     On June 12, 1983, Steve married Nancy Gates Bailey at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield.  They made their home in Goldfield and raised a son, Joshua. 

     Steve taught school and coached in Clarksville before returning to Goldfield to join his family at Whyte and Son until it closed in 1984.  He then worked for Field Antiques in Goldfield and Hardware Hank in Clarion. 

     Steve was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Jaycees, Lions Club, and the Goldfield Businessman’s Club.  He served on the Goldfield City Council for over 30 years, Wright County Landfill Board and Wright County Emergency Management. Nicknamed “Bear” in high school, Steve was active in sports and music.  He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and bowling.  The last several years Steve was up with the early morning Casey’s crew and loved his time with the “pool gals” at the Eagle Grove Wellness Center.

     Steve passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at the age 74 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

     Survivors include his wife, Nancy Whyte of Goldfield, son, Joshua Bailey of Goldfield and many other relatives and friends.

    There will be no services at this time.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 54, Goldfield, Iowa 50542
