Susan Blythe Haviland, first born child of Arthur and Gladys Thompson Haviland was delivered on November 24, 1937 by Dr Nell Schultz, of Humboldt, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA. She received her education in Livermore, Goldfield, Newark township #1(Webster County) and graduated from Eagle Grove Highschool in 1955. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, now UNI, in Cedar Falls, IA. In 1956 she married LeRoy Glen Erickson at the United Methodist Church in Vincent, IA, later becoming a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with 6 children.
In 1985, Susan became an employee of Meredith Corporation in Clarion, IA, retiring in 2004. She also served as volunteer coordinator for Eagle Grove Area Hospice which later became Hospice of Wright County. She has also involved serving the community in numerous ways through her church, Neighborhood Friendship Club, Troy Culture Club, Meals on Wheels, and Eagle Grove Ambassadors. She loved spending time with family and friends, never knowing a stranger.
Susan is survived by her children: Monte (Melody) Erickson, Eagle Grove; Marcy Bertran, Webster City; Loree Ellis, Webster City; Peggy Erickson, Granger; Jill Erickson (David Schaefer), Altoona; Jared (Kayla) Erickson, Collins; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and their children; sister, Sally Yohn, WI; LeRoy's sisters; many nieces and nephews as well as extended family and many good friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy of 64 years; son, Tracy; two sons-in law; step grandchild, and great-nephew.
Susan was very passionate about the Shriners Children and would encourage all donations and memorials to be made to that organization.
Susan deeply values the traditions and cummunity support offered by a church funeral. Understanding the impact of weather on travel and attendence, the family wishes for her funeral service to be held at a time when more people could attend comfortably and safely to celebrate her life. That service will be held 11:30 am, June 6th, 2026, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove.
