Vincent Charles Tookey, the son of George F. and Helen (Martin) Tookey, was born on August 30, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduating from Corpus Christi High School. Vince then attended Fort Dodge Junior College and A.I.B in Des Moines. He also served in the Iowa Army National Guard.
In 1960, Vince married Sally Goodell, they had two sons, Barrett and Lance, and later divorced. On September 1, 1979, Vince married Marlys Shepherd in Nashua, Iowa and enjoyed 40 years of marriage. They lived in Eagle Grove until moving to Fort Dodge in March of 2019 to be near family. Marlys preceded him in death on December 7, 2019.
Vince worked for Principal Financial and Banker’s Life in Des Moines, Union Trust & Savings in Fort Dodge, Corn Belt Power Cooperative in Humboldt and retired from Van Diest Supply in Webster City.
Vince was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan and enjoyed Nascar racing, watching westerns and family gatherings. He also loved his “1~2~5 challenge” with his granddaughter, Stephanie.
Vince previously played drums in a local big band and was an avid golfer at the Humboldt Country Club. He sang in the Humboldt Community Choir and was a member of the Comedia Musica Players of Fort Dodge, performing in a number of musical productions, including travelling to Leadville, CO for a performance run of Paint Your Wagon. Vince was also a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also active in the Hawkeye Community Theatre.
Vince passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at the age of 85 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Elmer Carlson; daughter and son-in-law, Joann, and Frank Teel; grandsons, Jacob Thompson and Shaun Teel; granddaughter, Carrie Aageson; daughters-in-law, Kim Brent and Teresa Tookey and brothers-in-law: Robert Wilson, Richard Wicklund, Ray, John, Phil and Rick Clendenen.
Left to cherish his memory are children: Barrett Tookey, Lance Tookey (Roberta), Ray Dale Carlson (Renae), Michael Carlson (Michelle), Jeannette Spencer (Kevin), John Carlson and Lora Thompson (Ron); numerous grand and great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgia Wicklund and Helene Wilson; sisters-in-law, Carlyn Juhl and Sherry Zingg; brother-in-law, Larry Shepherd and fur baby, Buddy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
